NetBeans 6.0 Released, Still Doesn't Work (For Me)

Well, well, well. It was released yesterday. I downloaded it. I installed it. I started it. I tried two things. Neither worked.

Can you guess which two things I tried?

Hint: I'm still a IntelliJ IDEA user. So I wasn't trying to do anything that IDEA can do.

I used to claim that NetBeans was annoying. I won't make that claim now. Actually, this time it may very well be that I'm too stupid to set it up right. But the end result is the same nevertheless.

No.

Re: NetBeans 6.0 Released, Still Doesn't Work (For Me)

I think you need to improve in three different ways. Can you guess what they are? I am telling you this to help you. I won't tell you what the three different ways are, but unless you improve in those three different ways, you suck. :-)

Your feedback is very much appreciated here at weiqigao.com. And all of the staff at weiqigao.com thank you for taking the time to read this blog entry. We understand that helping us figuring out where we need improvement is not part of your job. But the mere mentioning of this gives us motivation to improve ourselves.

Once again, thank you for your time.

Re: NetBeans 6.0 Released, Still Doesn't Work (For Me)

How? How are you going to improve yourself? Tell me?

Re: NetBeans 6.0 Released, Still Doesn't Work (For Me)

For one thing, I should try harder to refrain from making posts with negative connotations. (But it's a lot more fun that way. :) )

Re: NetBeans 6.0 Released, Still Doesn't Work (For Me)

It's hard to help you if you don't say what your problem is. Based on the info you've provided, I have no clue whatsoever about what didn't work for you. Are you interested in finding out how to solve your problem? Or are you interested in complaining about NetBeans? From your blog entry, at least the answer to these questions is obvious.

Re: NetBeans 6.0 Released, Still Doesn't Work (For Me)

I'm mainly complaining here, which is my way of helping NetBeans.

Re: NetBeans 6.0 Released, Still Doesn't Work (For Me)

How?! What is NetBeans supposed to do?! How are you helping anyone?!

Re: NetBeans 6.0 Released, Still Doesn't Work (For Me)

Let me count the ways:

  • I boosted NetBeans download count by one
  • I upgraded my call from "annoying" to "not working for some non-Java features"
  • I left the door open for future enhancements
  • I showed the world that I care
  • I preempted the nay sayers, as inevitably there will be

Re: NetBeans 6.0 Released, Still Doesn't Work (For Me)

Since you say you tried to do two things that are NOT things IDEA can do, I have to guess... 1. You tried to use the profiler (Idea does not have one) 2. Uh...maybe you tried something related to using Ant? While IDEA works with Ant, NetBeans USES Ant instead of a project file, right? I think you should fill us in.

Re: NetBeans 6.0 Released, Still Doesn't Work (For Me)

Well, I tried two things way out of side of the normal:

  • I tried to create a C++ project with a hello world file in it. NetBeans complained that my project doesn't have any files.
  • I tried to reverse engineer a Java project into its UML model. It generated the XMI file. But I got no models, as the tutorial video said I would.

Both would be fantastic features if they had worked.

Re: NetBeans 6.0 Released, Still Doesn't Work (For Me)

What are the steps that you took for the above two tasks? I would like to try them and see what happens.

Re: NetBeans 6.0 Released, Still Doesn't Work (For Me)

I don't remember exactly how I did them. For the C++ project, I did the most intuitive thing. For the UML reverse engineering, I did follow some screencast that I found online somewhere. I don't remember the exact location of it, and I don't remember which search words I used to find it in the first place.

Re: NetBeans 6.0 Released, Still Doesn't Work (For Me)

Hmm. Do you honestly believe that there's not something wrong on your side? I find it hard to believe that the above two scenarios don't work.

Re: NetBeans 6.0 Released, Still Doesn't Work (For Me)

I'm sure it's something on my side. I can't believe that they don't work either.

I'm stupid. I mentioned this in the post.

Re: NetBeans 6.0 Released, Still Doesn't Work (For Me)

Strange, that C++ does not work for you. I use it for my thesis and I am really happy with it. Maybe you should try it again and tell us what your steps are ...
