Goodbye Fedora, Hello Debian

My Fedora 7 Upgrade did not go well (some stupid video driver issue). So I wiped the disk and installed Debian 4.0r0.

Now you debian fans out there, especially those who says "You should be running Debian, the truly free operating system," will endure some of my stupid questions:

Q1: How do I start the SSH server? How do I configure it so that it starts on reboot?

Q2: How do I share the printer that's hanging off of the parallel port of the Debian box? With CUPS?

Re: Goodbye Fedora, Hello Debian

Without the benefit of a working Debian box to check:
  1. aptitude install openssh-server
  2. Briefly, yes. I’ve used the web interface to configure CUPS after installation without any trouble.

Re: Goodbye Fedora, Hello Debian

I have both sshd and cups set up now. Thanks.

Re: Goodbye Fedora, Hello Debian

This is great news! Congratulations on the switch! I prefer feta over all of the other apt tools. It's basically a great front-end for apt-get, apt-cache, etc. You can install it by doing:
apt-get install feta
Then, you can always find things with "feta search X".

Re: Goodbye Fedora, Hello Debian

Thanks. I have feta installed now. And it has gotten me gcc and g++ already.

One thing I have to admit is that the Debian package management commands are a lot faster than Fedora's yum, mostly because of yum's startup time.

Re: Goodbye Fedora, Hello Debian

Whoa, that's great, since I've been wondering how you'd been enduring Fedora:P I've been using Ubuntu for some while, maybe 2 years. Kudos to debian.

Re: Goodbye Fedora, Hello Debian

May the source be with you, new deb.
