Getting Started With Bloglines.com

I'm chatting with Brian and Brian here at the office. And I mentioned bloglines.com. Brian is not using something like bloglines.com yet. Instead of showing him how to get started using Bloglines.com, I'm going to blog about it. That way other people might also benefit.

Here's the steps:

  1. Go to bloglines.com
  2. Set up an account (they want your real email address.)
  3. Get the Bloglines helpers for your browser and operating system. I use the Bloglines Toolkit extension for Firefox, which allows me to subscribe to feeds through a right click menu. Similar things exist for other browsers.
  4. Browse the net, subscribe to feeds as you encounter them.
  5. Make Bloglines.com part of your home pages.

Re: Getting Started With Bloglines.com

bloglines is so 2004... Do yourself a favor and try Google Reader. You won't go back.

Re: Getting Started With Bloglines.com

Hmm, I forgot about Google Reader. I wonder what other tools similar to Bloglines or Google Reader is out there that people use.

Re: Getting Started With Bloglines.com

I have tried Google reader (even recently after their update) and I found it awkward at best. I'm sticking with Bloglines for now. But I'll switch as soon as something genuinely better comes along. Web aggregation is the way to go for people like me, who use computers at many different work and home locations.

Re: Getting Started With Bloglines.com

The easiest way to get someone started with Bloglines is to send some of your feeds using "tell a friend" feature on the bottom.

Re: Getting Started With Bloglines.com

Thanks for the pointer. I'll ask Brian if he still needs such a message.

Re: Getting Started With Bloglines.com

+1 for the updated version of Google Reader.
