China Blocks SourceForge.net

This is ridiculous.

David Duan: 近日,世界上最大的开源软件社区与服务提供网站www.sourceforge.net 不能被中国用户访问了。

Translation: The world's biggest open source community and services website, www.sourceforge.net, is inaccessible from within China now.

Re: China Blocks SourceForge.net

The block appears to have been temporary. I'm able to access it right now - 3/4/2006 16:24 Shanghai time (ADSL connection in Shanghai provided by the Shanghai Post and Telecom).

Re: China Blocks SourceForge.net

That's good to know.

Re: China Blocks SourceForge.net

I have co-workers in China and they have experienced temporary (matter of hours) outages before. This probably isn't political. From what I have heard, China understands the value of open source, infact open source is critical to the countries independendence and growth.

Re: China Blocks SourceForge.net

Don't mean to make this thread more political than it has to be - but I simply can't help but noting the "subtle assumption" here. Whenever some site becomes inaccessible to Chinese users, the first thing we think of is "damn it's blocked again". I'm sure in many occasions like this one, the Chinese government turns out to be wrongly blamed, but why do people not hold the same assumption when, say, Indian users can't access sf.net? It's just sad when you really think about this whole thing.
