Harmony is the Apache project for an open source Java implementation announced 93 days ago.

At least it will be free. Not free as in free beer, but free as in:
  • free source code
  • free from evil corporate ownership
  • free from evil concept of "profit"
  • free if your time isn't worth anything
and begin flames....now
