Ask Jeeves Acquired, 40 Days After Buying Bloglines

The New Work Times is reporting (free registration, etc., etc.) that Ask Jeeves will be acquired by IAC/InterActiveCorp.

This comes only 40 days after Ask Jeeves' acquisition of Bloglines. The New York Times report did not even mention Bloglines.com as a factor in the deal.

Staring at the IAC home page for five minutes will convince you that Bloglines.com doesn't belong there (HSN? LendingTree.com? Match.com?)

What are they going to do? Offering you Home Shopping Network gadgets based on what you blog? Offering 4 home loans every hour based on what you blog? Matching you up with the other half based on what you blog?

Re: Ask Jeeves Acquired, 40 Days After Buying Bloglines

I had wondered the same thing.

Interestingly, a Google search seems to indicate that an earlier version of the NYTimes story read "The company's brands include Excite.com, iWon.com and most recently, Bloglines." The current version reads, "Fourth-quarter profits and revenue at Ask Jeeves, whose brands include ask.com, Excite.com, iWon.com, more than doubled."

Not only is Bloglines missing from the current article, the "and" is, too. Maybe just a goof while rewriting the article; maybe something else.

I did not catch the earlier version of the New York Times report. Thank you for pointing it out.

What is more interesting is that the news even made my local morning talk show. Apparently the buying company is headed by a famous rich man.
